My name is Chelsey Meekins and I am the AP Chemistry, Chemistry, 8th Grade Science teacher, and the Student Council advisor at the high school. 

 

A little about myself - in my profile picture is the most important aspects of my life! My husband, Carlyle, who is a research biologist/ecologist working as a consultant with BOW Renewables for the renewable energy sector. Our son, Ezra, a rambunctious 5 year old kindergartner. I am blessed to have my "boys" in my life and your students will be hearing about them frequently when Carlyle finds something interesting with his work that I think is applicable to their lives, and when Ezra does something funny! 

 

I am a 2009 graduate from Rockwood Area School District, a 2013 alumna from California University of Pennsylvania (PennWest) where I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, and a 2016 alumna from California University of Pennsylvania (PennWest) where I earned my Masters of Arts in Chemistry Education. During my time at CalU I worked as a laboratory tech assistant and a tutor for the chemistry and mathematics department. 

 

Before landing in education, I was a chemist at PPG Industries (Monroeville Campus) working in their optics unit on low cost trivex (plastic eye glasses formulation) performing research, design, and analysis. I loved working in a lab, but was missing something. 

 

I started my journey in education in 2014, working as a long term substitute until I was finished with my MAT degree, and absolutely love my job! This is currently my 8th year as a full-time teacher. I taught 6 years in Garrett County Maryland (Northern High School) where I taught College Ecology, Introduction to Engineering and Design (IED with PLTW), Fundamentals of Physical Science, Chemistry, AP Chemistry, Physics, and AP Physics. 

 

In 2022, I was hired here at Shade and haven't looked back since! I'm loving my experience with your students and the families here in Shade School District!! Thank you for trusting me with your students and their physical science education!
