In #6, have your child identify the numbers in the ones place and add them together to see if they equal 10 or more.  If they equal 10 or more you can make a 10 to add.  If the sum of the ones is less than 10, you can not make a 10 to add.

Tomorrow will be our Topic 13 Assessment on telling time to the hour and half hour!

Due:

Making Time - half hour

Making Time - half hour
When writing the hands on the clock face to show time to the half hour, the hour hand MUST be between two numbers and the minute hand should be at 6.  For example: 1:30 - The hour hand MUST be between 1 and 2.  The minute hand MUST be at 6.  I will be very picky about this on Thursday's test!

Topic 13 Assessment will be on Thursday, April 20, 2023.

Due:

HW & Practice 13-4

HW & Practice 13-4 pgs. 731-732

In #s 1 & 2 your child does NOT have to write to explain their reasoning.  Instead, have them explain how they know to you.

Due:

Extra Credit (optional assignment) T9PA

Extra Credit (worth up to 3 points)  is due - Topic 9 Performance Assessment pgs. 539-540

Some of the papers may have a mistake in #6 where 58 appears twice on the number chart.  It should read 58, 59, with the blank square being next.

Due:

Clocks

There is no math homework tonight.

In class today clocks were introduced.  We watched a video and talked about the parts of a clock.  We learned about the face, numbers, and the hands.  We also made oaktag clocks today.  Please keep this clock in a safe place.  You can use it at home to have your child show different times.  In first grade we learn how to tell time to the hour and half hour.

HW & Practice 9-5 pgs. 525-526

I sent a number line, 0-100, home with each student today.  Please use it for tonight's homework.  It does not need to be returned.

To help with greater than and less than, we've talked in class about an alligator that wants to eat the greater number.  Once we determine which number is greater and write the symbol, we would read the equation using "is greater than" or "is less than" to see if it makes sense.

Our Topic 9 Assessment will be on Friday, March 31, 2023.

Due:

HW & Practice 9-4

This is a 5 point assignment.  We'll count and use the items in class on the 100th day of school which is Tuesday, January 31, 2023.

We are skipping #7.

Due:

HW & Practice 5-3

HW & Practice 5-3 pgs. 315-316

We did NOT draw pictures to solve these problems.  Drawing pictures for these problems can be very confusing.  Instead, we learned to solve one side of the equation so that we could find the missing part in the other.

Due:

HW & Practice 5-2

HW & Practice 5-2 pgs. 309-310

Do NOT make counters or draw pictures to help solve these equations.  There really isn't enough space.  In class, we learned to solve both sides of the equation.  Then we looked to see if the numbers on either side of the equal sign were the same or different.  If they were the same, the equation was true.  If they were different, the equation was false.

We are skipping #7.

Due:

HW & Practice 5-1

HW & Practice 5-1 pgs. 303-304

Please use the ice cream paper attached to your child's homework to write a number story for #6.  Example story: Mrs. Naret has 10 pencils.  Mrs. Sabol gives her some more.  Now Mrs. Naret has 18 pencils.  How many pencils did Mrs. Sabol give to Mrs. Naret?

The Make 10 strategy is crossed out on tonight's homework because we did not go over that strategy in class.  I find it confusing for the students and more of a mental math strategy that 1st graders may not completely understand, so we skipped it!  Counting back or using addition to solve subtract equations are much simpler.

Due:

HW & Practice 4-6

HW & Practice 4-6 pgs. 265-266

Due:

HW & Practice 4-5

HW & Practice 4-5 pgs. 259-260
