Unit 1 Spelling Test will be Tuesday, April 9.  Students will be tested on 5 Memory Words and 5 Pattern Words.

 

In this unit of Superkids, we are learning that when y is at the end of a word it is a vowel.

1. When a word ends in y and it's the only vowel, the y stands for the long i sound. Ex: cry

2. When a words ends in y and has another vowel that is not next to it, the y stands for the long e sound. Ex: puppy

3. When a word has 2 vowels together, the first is usually long and the second is silent. Ex: play

The yellow highlighted line is to help guide your child in writing the letters on the appropriate lines.  Please correct your child if he/she is making the letters incorrectly - make sure the hook on "g" falls below the baseline and "h" is tall with the "hump" at the middle dotted line.  Encourage them to take their time and do their best writing.  Place a finger space after each letter they write.

Qq handwriting page - Please encourage your child to take their time tracing and writing capital and lowercase q.  This proved to be a pretty tricky letter to write for a lot of my students today!
