Thanks for visiting my page! I'm Miss Buchanan, or "Miss B", the Shade-Central City School District Speech Therapist. I work with all grades, Elementary, Jr. High and High School age students. First and foremost, I consider myself very lucky because not only do I have a very rewarding career, but I get to work with some pretty awesome students! If I work with your child, I consider myself extremely fortunate. Not only do I get to teach them, but they teach me many things as well!
Many people ask, "what does a Speech Therapist do?" The scope of our practice is quite vast. We are able to evaluate, diagnose and treat speech sound disorders, language disorders, pragmatic (social skill) disorders, cognitive impairments, and also swallowing/feeding disorders (dysphagia)..and that's just the tip of the ice berg! Along with treating the students that qualify for Speech and Language Support, I work directly with all Kindergarten students on emerging literacy, reading and spelling skills during our weekly Literacy Lessons. You will find Speech-Language Pathologists in school settings, skilled nursing facilities, hospitals and private clinics. The latest trend in treating speech disorders is telepractice done via webcam!
I always say that I am an open book when it comes to your child. If you have questions pertaining to your child, please reach out to me. I enjoy keeping communication open with parents and letting them know just how awesome their kids are! Phone calls are good, but since I work in both buildings, sometimes email is easiest to reach me at. Please check out the links on the left hand column for information on milestones and the IEP process. Also, please subscribe to my webpage so that you are informed of any updates and announcements throughout the school year. Let's make this school year the best possible for you child! Please feel free to email me at [email protected] with any questions.
-Sincerely,
Miss Buchanan
