I'm Ms. Buchanan, or "Ms. B", the Shade-Central City School District Speech-Language Pathologist. I work with students in grades Kindergarten-12th grade. I consider myself very lucky because not only do I have a very rewarding career, but I get to work with some pretty amazing students as well. Not only do I get to teach your children, but they teach me many things, too. I believe that learning never stops, no matter what age you are.
Many people ask, "what does a Speech-Language Pathologist do?" The scope of our practice is quite vast. We are able to evaluate, diagnose and treat speech sound disorders, language disorders, pragmatic (social skill) disorders, cognitive impairments, and also swallowing/feeding disorders (dysphagia)..and that's just the tip of the ice berg! Along with treating the students that qualify for Speech and Language Support, I work directly with kindergarten students on literacy, reading and spelling skills during our weekly lessons or group activities. You will find Speech-Language Pathologists in skilled nursing facilities, hospitals, and private clinics as well as in a school setting.
I always say that I am an open book when it comes to your child. If you have questions pertaining to your child, please reach out to me. I strive to keep communication open with parents about their child's success in school. Phone calls are good, but since I work in both buildings, sometimes email is the easiest way to reach me. Please check out the links on the left hand column for information on milestones and the IEP process. Also, please subscribe to my webpage so that you are informed of any updates and announcements throughout the school year. Let's make this school year the best possible for you child! Please feel free to email me at [email protected] with any questions.
-Sincerely,
Ms. Buchanan
