Warm Fuzzies/Reward Coupons
This year I will use a coupon reward system that is based on the use of motivators called warm fuzzies. What are warm fuzzies? They are craft pom-poms of various sizes. Warm fuzzies serve as the daily, tangible classroom currency.
Throughout the school day my students have the opportunity to earn little and big fuzzies that are tied to behavioral, procedural, academic, and routine expectations in and out of the classroom. However, these fuzzies can also be taken away when a poor choice is made.
At the end of each week the students will count their fuzzies. Little fuzzies are worth 1 point and big fuzzies are worth 5 points. Once their fuzzies are counted, the students will trade their fuzzies for coupons that range in price from 10-200 fuzzies.
I have tons of coupons to choose from! Coupons are switched out/around every few weeks, so there's always something that appeals to everyone. They all eventually find their favorites! Plus, this system gives everyone the opportunity to earn a reward.
Once the coupons are earned, each student can redeem one coupon per day. Some coupons allow students to bring in items from home that wouldn't otherwise be allowed in the classroom.
Below is the tri-fold in my classroom that is used to display the coupons. It also serves as a visual reminder for students to make the best choices.
Previous classes have absolutely loved earning fuzzies for coupons. It's a fun way to encourage positive choices in my classroom!
